Chapter 1: The Start of a Legacy

This is Anani Malone. Her name means Nameless.
Tell her this and make her understand the world is cruel.
Tell her to do the best with her life and take all opportunities.
This letter was still in Anani's posession 18 years later. Anani left Kingsbury Orphanage one of the more fortunate urchins. She had taken the note writer's thoughts to heart and in her eighteen years at Kingsbury had never stopped studying or learning. Her hard work paid off and she was able to go to La Fiesta Tech on a free ride. She decided to study philosophy and vowed to herself to work as hard as possible to keep up her grades and to be successful.
La Fiesta Tech was a whole other world for Anani. She was placed in the Oasis Dormitory with four other students and enjoyed her space. She did well her freshman year in Oasis. She started her Philosophy major, and soon decided on paranormal as a career path.
Anani didn't have many friends to tell her dreams to, but on her lonely hours on the computer she met Shea Lanchild. She never thought she'd say this, it wasn't part of her ideal life, but... Anani was in love with Shea.
His kisses left her weak in the knees, and they could talk for hours about their future together. He wasn't quite perfect... he could be a bit jealous and, well, a little violent towards her dormmates if he thought they were hitting on her, but overall, Anani loved being with him. They dated until the beginning of her sophomore year when her dorrmmate and friend River got in Shea's way. Anani could barely remember the events of that night. It was all a blur.
River gave her a friendly hug, Shea saw it... got angry... pulled out his hands to shove River... Anani remembered herself jumping in front of Shea- "No! Shea- Don't be stupid-" And falling to the ground in agony.
River immediately reported Shea to the authorities for assault. Anani cried in her room for hours. A soft knock at the door and River came in.
"Anani, I realize you don't want to hear this but-"
"You're right. I don't. Get the hell out. You've ruined my life."
River gave her a wounded look and left silently. Anani knew this was one of the lowest points of her life. She was still in love with Shea, but there was no way he would understand that when he got out of jail. Anani couldn't face her dormmates and that night, packed her bags and left Oasis Dormitory for a house across campus.
